Krakow salt mine

Krakow is a fascinating Polish city that has a lot to offer visitors from all over the world. From its rich history, you will be able to discover countless monuments and sites – there are so many symbols of our country in this one city! But if we had to recommend an excursion, we would definitely recommend spending time at the Wieliczka Salt Mine as well, as it is also an ancient site dating back some 14 million years, making it one of the oldest Polish monuments.

Organised tours

Although it is said to be Krakow Salt Mine it is located beneath the city, in Wieliczka. As the largest salt mine in Poland, Wieliczka will not disappoint. It’s worth knowing that many companies, and if someone wants to explore on their own, there are brochures about the place available in English too! There is so much going on there that everyone will find something different to explore; even if they spend hours exploring on their own adventures in those old tunnels underground.

Historically important site

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Poland’s oldest and most interesting historical sites. This place could have been created millions or even billions of years ago, when it was not yet a mine! It’s amazing to see something so ancient with such a rich history – especially as we get an insight into how the industry has changed over time. However, there are a few important things to consider before visiting: this place is underground, so you have to go underground to get to it. It is accessed by almost half a thousand stairs, which are narrow, and if one happens to go up, there is virtually no way to go back down. People with a fear of heights or claustrophobia should not embark on such a trip, as it may end in panic and unnecessary stress for them. It is worth assessing this before going there.

A place for the whole family

The Salt Mine is a place that will delight both children and adults. There they can watch educational tours led by experienced guides who show the amazing Solilandia or learn something new while having fun! Adults may want to relax in one of these graduation towers, where all you have to do is breathe deeply and calmly; such an experience has been proven to be therapeutic for mental health problems such as depression, but is also ideal for people with a thyroid condition. Breathing in the graduation towers gives you the same feeling – mentally and physically – as being by the sea, so it’s worth going there for the relaxation and health benefits of breathing in iodine, which we often have little of in our air on a daily basis.

Online mine

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Poland’s most famous attractions. It offers a virtual tour that will allow you to find out more about this place without leaving home! And if something is holding you back, you can easily find yourself in the mine on my phone or computer screen while browsing their website.
